CHANGE IS POSSIBLE

OLUBUNMI OMODEINDE

I have been thinking for a while on whether it is possible to bring about change in any form to our society, especially in the 21st century. Most people and/or organisations prefer to remain in their comfort zones. Change is a difficult subject and for most of us, it unsettles us.

Although all organisations want growth, most don’t like the idea of change. Why should we change our system, our way, our culture, our practice? If it has worked for us, then surely there is no need to alter the way we do things. Can change be sometimes inevitable? Can change ever be necessary in a growing business?

We are often told that politicians entered politics so as to bring about change. We may have heard a politician say something like “I do not like the way things have been going on in my constituent and I am in politics to change this.” We assumed we voted politicians that have our interests at heart into office and we may not have doubted that they are in politics to defend those interests using their good offices to effect change including sometimes through legislation.

Change is not a matter for the leadership alone. Change affects everyone and all of us should be involved one way or another. It does not matter what position or role we occupy, the issue is whether we can through our roles in the community bring change to our world. It is reasonable to conclude that yes, change is indeed possible through you and I.

BE THE LIGHT IN YOUR COMMUNITY.
